Danica's Biography

Danica grew up in New York City, attending the Rudolf Steiner (Waldorf) School, then Barnard College  (Columbia University). Later she also took courses at Boston University and Leslie College Graduate School. She has worked in the educational and medical fields and then began her own practice in massage therapy about 1990.  After moving back to New York State from Massachusetts she decided to take her third professional training in massage therapy (to learn even more skills!) at the nearby community college. She received the New York massage license, and continued her massage work in Philmont and then also in Chatham, New York.

Her early study of eurythmy (a kind of movement art or yoga) in Stuttgart, Germany for 4 years (1979-83) had given her the professional credentials required to teach eurythmy in Waldorf Schools in the U.S. and also to perform in a eurythmy touring group. Now eurythmy and the world view behind it still inspires much of what she does in life. She also volunteers and connects in other ways to various individuals, groups and initiatives in the area that focus on many of the interests and activities that she values. She is so happy and grateful to live and work here and to offer massage to her clients!

Our Massages

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage reaches deeper layers of muscles.  It can also be combined with deep pressure point and trigger point release therapy.  It can be applied through the soft massage sheets, directly on the skin, or through the client's clothing if clothed massage is preferred.

Above is a picture of Danica doing Chair Massage as a benefit for the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School during one of their recent Yuletide Fairs.

Swedish

The goal of Swedish Massage is to melt away muscle tension and increase the blood flow to your heart. Swedish Massage is extremely therapeutic as it decreases muscle toxins, increases oxygen levels in the blood, and improves flexibility in the body.

Hot Stone

Hot Stone Massage is often paired with Swedish Massage. Stones are heated and used with oils to soothe, warm, and massage your muscles. The stones are held in the therapist's hands while they are stroking your body, making the massage stokes feel warmer and deeper. This allows your body to relax and release tension and stress.

More Massage Styles

Shiatsu, Acupressure and ABT

Shiatsu (along with acupressure) works on energy pathways (meridians) and points (including many that are used in acupuncture) that helps balance and move energy through the body and organs, and that can relieve pain and improve health, as well as leave you more relaxed. Thumb pressure and stretches are used; never needles.

Asian Bodywork Therapy (ABT) promotes, maintains, and restores physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual health by treating the individual within the "Qi and Meridian" principles of Chinese Medicine, through various assessments, treatment strategies, and bodywork techniques.

Reflexology

Hand and foot massage are both usually part of any full-body massage. Reflexology points are also addressed in the course of the massage,  with light or deep pressure without the very painful thumb pressure often associated with reflexology.

Reiki and other Energy Therapies

Energy Therapies (including Reiki and Touch for Health) address the life energy that lives around the body and also penetrates and enlivens the organs via the Chakras and Channels. Simple hand motions or placements on these special areas on your body, even through clothing, can make you feel more centered and relaxed.  Such energy therapy may have its own session or be applied at the beginning or end of a massage.
